Student visa pathway

Build the application around a genuine study plan.

Requirements depend on the applicant, education provider and course. Australian Home Affairs guidance always controls.

Choose the course

Check CRICOS registration, campus, level, duration, entry requirements and progression fit.

Confirm the route

Verify whether the application is submitted through MEGA directly, our partner network or the provider’s approved process.

Prepare documents

Provide passport, academic records, English evidence, employment or gap evidence and any course-specific supporting documents.

Receive and review offer

Read all conditions, provider identity, tuition, refund terms, deadlines and scholarship conditions before acceptance.

Obtain the CoE

Meet the acceptance requirements so the provider can issue the Confirmation of Enrolment required for the visa.

Arrange OSHC

Maintain acceptable Overseas Student Health Cover for the required period unless an official exemption applies.

Prepare the GS case

Answer the Genuine Student questions honestly and attach evidence supporting the study choice and circumstances.

Lodge and wait

Submit the Subclass 500 application through ImmiAccount and avoid guaranteed timing or approval claims.

Work and post-study options

Employment is never guaranteed and should not be used as the main funding plan for study.

During classes

Up to 48 hours per fortnight

Most student visa holders may work up to 48 hours in each fortnight while the course is in session. Students cannot work before their course starts, and their visa conditions should be checked in VEVO.

During scheduled breaks

Unlimited hours may apply

Student visa holders can generally work unlimited hours when their course is not in session. Mandatory course placements and other work experience have specific rules.

After higher education

Temporary graduate route

Eligible Australian degree graduates may qualify for the Post-Higher Education Work stream, usually for two or three years depending on the qualification and subject to age, study, English and other visa criteria.

Permanent residence

No automatic PR

An Australian qualification does not guarantee permanent residence. Skilled migration, employer-sponsored and other pathways have separate occupation, points, nomination and eligibility rules.
